St Mark's Flower Guild
The Flower Guild is a group of very talented people who arrange and care for the flowers in the Sanctuary and the Side Chapel in St Marks on a week by week basis. The flowers in the Church are gifts from parishioners, often given in memory of a loved one; if the donor does not wish to arrange the flowers themselves they will be done by a member of the Flower Guild.
At Easter, Christmas and Harvest Thanksgiving the Flower Guild, with the help of other members of the Parish decorate the Church. Special flowers are needed these occasions and the Congregation contribute to the purchase of these flowers e.g. lilies for Easter. After Harvest Thanksgiving the Flower Guild pack and arrange for the distribution of gifts to the elderly and housebound of the parish, and to some of the 'homes' in the local area. These gifts are delivered by members of the parish and many of the recipients value the visit as much as the gift - a very worthwhile and hidden part of the Flower Guild's work.
