Worship
A message from the Rector
Properly speaking worship is the offering of our whole lives and all that we do to God. The worship we offer on Sundays is intended to be a summary of the offering of our lives.
In the Church of Ireland we use set forms (liturgical) of worship with a degree of freedom to reflect the seasons of the year. All of these services are contained within the Book of Common Prayer. The Book of Common Prayer and daily readings can be downloaded from here, from the main Church of Ireland web site.
We do so because the first christians, being Jews used the liturgical worship with which they were familiar. Although using set forms may seem strange, to those brought up in another christian tradition, it provides an authoritative framework for all worship.
The prayer book provides resources for both public and private prayer. On the inside of the front cover you will find a very simple, but effective, form for daily prayer throughout the year.
In the Church of Ireland we also provide daily scripture readings, which you will also find in the Book of Common Prayer. If these are followed morning and evening, each day, you will read the bible through each year.
In St Mark's we use Morning Prayer (mattins) on two Sunday mornings of the month and the sacrament of Holy Communion (Eucharist, Lord's Supper) on one Sunday of the month.
